GETTONA

Gettona (which means Ghetto owner; Mwini ghetto ) has been a fun of Malawian music since he was young, after realising that the messages in most Malawian Music speaks and connects well with him than the foreign ones. He later started composing music in 2011 after experiencing how local urban artists like Gwamba were killing it in vernacular. On 7th December 2013, he jumped into the studio to record his first hip-hop track called Badman Walandidwa Mkazi which was a diss to a friend who was snatched a girlfriend by a certain lad. He released a second song in 2014 called Dancing which was recorded by DASH at D.T.E studios in Lumbadzi . The song received a tremendous applause among his fans in his hood, from the way the song was composed to the way he was managing the stage when performing it. After these two tracks, he decided to quit music because his parents were not happy supposing that music is going to hinder his studies. They told him that they are going to stop supporting his studies if he continues with what he was doing(Music). From 2014 to 2022 he refocused on his studies to please his parents but never stopped composing music. Then, his musical journey resumed in October 2022 after submitting his dissertation to his supervisor at MUBAS, formerly the Polytechnic. During this month, to test his capabilities before leaving for Lilongwe, he recorded 5 tracks in different genres with Sispence at Matrix records in Chilimba, Blantyre. Currently, he hasn’t started releasing music because he is trying to gather up resources knowing that for music to have an impact it needs money for videos, promotion and other logistics.
